Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few key adjustments:

  • Each team has only 8 real players, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by human gamers grant full XP, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Features like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.

In short, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it provides additional choices for players looking for alternative methods to enjoy the game. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many BF6 players are upset.

Community Responses: From Fury to Praise

"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," states a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and someone else lists all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," states a different comment. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," while another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Criticisms and Community Feedback

All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times more extended for other modes due to the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Lastly, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to remove bot farms from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base compromising in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?

Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
