Pat Bamford Joins the Blades Despite Leading Derogatory Songs About Manager Chris Wilder

Patrick Bamford has signed with Sheffield United just seven months following instigating insulting songs aimed at their manager, Wilder.

The 32-year-old striker, a free agent after departing from Leeds United, has agreed to a agreement with the Championship strugglers until January. Bamford's lengthy time with Leeds finished by mutual consent this past summer.

Among the player's final notable acts as a Leeds player involved leading offensive chants about Wilder during Leeds' promotion party in April. Now, the former England player will be playing for Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to pull the team he loves away from the relegation zone.

Past Conflict Involving the Striker and Wilder

Both men had previous conflict prior to Leeds earned promotion to the top flight the previous campaign and United lost the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder described Bamford as a "muppet" back when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and the Blades secured automatic promotion whereas Leeds United fell short in the promotion playoffs.

Making Amends & Looking Ahead

Everything appears has been put behind them with United, the league's least productive attack, in desperate need of a boost up front and Bamford aiming to resurrect his playing days.

The Wilder chant gained traction in April. A repentant Bamford along with Leeds boss, Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.

Wilder stated back then: “Had a conversation with Pat recently and I’ve no problem at all with it. I’m not sure regarding the language from a fellow professional! However I appreciated and admired him calling me.

“We spent 20 minutes and similarly I talked with Daniel as well and had a half-hour chat together and he is a super guy, a class act. When I was playing we would give it and accept it and that is an integral part of the game across all levels, even on a Sunday morning. I have absolutely no issue. I'm fine with the situation and I told him that to Patrick.”

Recent Playing Struggles

The forward made 18 games with Leeds United in the previous campaign but the former Forest, Chelsea and Middlesbrough player has struggled with injury over the past few seasons.
