Rob Edwards along with O'Neil represent the initial names in the frame to succeed Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolves.

Pereira was sacked on the weekend after the team's ten-game without a victory start to the top-flight season.

And both candidates - each of whom have historic associations to the team - are among the options to be evaluated by the Wolves leadership.

The manager is currently at another club, which would create a potential obstacle to his appointment at Molineux.

However the ex- Luton head coach - who made more than 100 of games for Wolves during his playing career - is considered a strong contender for the position.

The mid-career manager is said to have support from the Wolves board as they start the process of appointing a fresh head coach.

O'Neil is also emerging as a surprise candidate, although he would be a shock choice considering he was released by the club in the previous winter.

The former West Ham United player is currently unemployed meaning the club would not need to provide any buyout fee.
